What They're Saying...

  • “I’m not a club person. I gave them up a long time ago, but I like meeting new people and professional people and that’s the kind of people I’m meeting at Venture Out.”
    Gary P.
Welcome to Venture Out Florida Print E-mail

Hello and Welcome to Venture Out Florida... The fun Gay and Lesbian social group for Broward and Palm Beach counties.  Venture Out was created in 2005 to help gay and lesbian people make new friends, share fun times, and escape the ordinary with unique and enjoyable activities throughout South Florida! Currently, there are over 1,500 registered users of all ages.

Our events range from outdoor activities such as hiking, boating and camping, and bowling... to casual indoor social gatherings like dinners, parties, movie nights, and wine tasting.  Potluck Dinners are typically held on the first Saturday of every month.  Whether you are an avid enthusiast or just looking to get out of the house on a Saturday, you'll find plenty to do here.
Our calendar, updated every three months, balances activities between:

  • Broward and Palm Beach counties
  • Indoors and outdoors
  • Free and some costs
  • Days of the week (usually Friday, Saturday, or Sunday)
Venture Out is an event-oriented club. Our focus is on offering our members a wide variety of events on an average of once per week. Although many of our members are active-minded singles, we are not a singles club or a dating service. We welcome and encourage couples to participate either together or individually.

Registration is important, so you can stay informed through our weekly event e-mails.

If your goal is to take full advantage of all that South Florida has to offer and make great friends while doing it, Venture Out is the organization for you. We are the friendliest, most outgoing social group around. Let's Venture Out!

Frequently Asked Questions...
WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE ATTEND VENTURE OUT EVENTS?
Venture Out is open to everyone; Gay and Straight...Men and Women...Singles and Couples...Young and Old.  Many of our members are professionals, down-to-earth gay men people seeking a better way to meet people than the typical "Bar Scene". For a good representation of our members, sign up as a member and view our member list.

HOW OLD ARE YOUR MEMBERS?
All ages...from 20 to 70!  The average age is mid-30s, but each event attracts a different demographic. For a good representation of our ages of our members and some past events, view our photo library.

HOW MANY PEOPLE USUALLY ATTEND?
Attendance varies from event to event.  Some events (dinner/movies, parties and monthly potluck dinners) attract 30 to 50 people, while other events (outdoor events, museums, etc.) have smaller- under 20 people- turnouts.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A MEMBER?
Nothing...other than registering on our website and an email account. Registration is important so you can access many of the website's functions and so that we can send a weekly email update and event reminder to keep you informed of what's going on. We do not share your email address with anyone.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
There is no fee to join Venture Out. However many events have an associated cost and we often ask for a small donation to cover administrative/marketing expenses.  Our online calendar and weekly emailing lists the approximate cost of each activity.

WHAT ABOUT WOMEN?
Approximately 30% of our members are women. Nonetheless, our events are predominantly attended by men, although this has been changing.  We're pleased to see more women attending the events, and are seeking more women to coordinate women's-only events and help market Venture Out in women's circles.

WHO RUNS VENTURE OUT?

Venture Out is an all-volunteer group, with each weekly event run or "coordinated" by one person from our 12-person "Board of Directors". This board meets every three months to develop a new seasonal calendar of activities and assign coordinators.

WHAT'S VENTURE OUT'S HISTORY?
Venture Out was founded in 2001 by Bora Ucok. The group ran successfully for several months, but soon dissolved after Bora left South Florida to return to Canada. In 2005, Kevin Lerner and his partner Rudy Flugel re-started the group, driven by a desire to improve the social lives of gay and lesbian people in South Florida. Today, the group remains strong with over 1,500 members.
